Artworks

Artworks is a not for profit arts organisation that provides opportunity and engagement with art for all.

They are based at Shaw Lodge Mills, an 1830’s textile mill 10 minutes walk from Halifax Train Station.

They run artist led courses and workshops, have large making spaces with printmaking, ceramics and textile facilities, 20 artist studios and a gallery space.

They believe art has an important role to play in all our lives and we should all be able to take part. They offer FREE and subsidised places to people experiencing mental health challenges, economic hardship and social isolation.

If you would like to arrange a visit or find out more you can get in touch at [email protected]

By providing free access to our activities we hope to create opportunities to celebrate the value of creative production and promote integration between Halifax’s existing community and its newest members.

During Refugee Week 2020 the Artworks led a a unique art project as part of Valley of Sanctuary.

A wide range of rich creative pieces were received from all ages and parts of the community – poems, drawings, songs, films, letters, paintings, zoom calls and recipes!

Together they show the wonderful creativity and diversity of the people of Calderdale – their lives, homes, experiences of lockdown, connections to other nations, and a strong sense of community.
