We collaborate with schools, community groups, businesses, volunteers and more to create real change — from long-term programmes to one-off creative projects. Below you’ll find both current and past initiatives that reflect our vision in action.
Current & Ongoing Projects:

Sanctuary Awards
We support schools, cafes, art venues, libraries and more to work towards becoming official Places of Sanctuary. This ongoing programme helps organisations embed welcome into everything they do.

Refugee Week
Every year in June, we coordinate a vibrant programme of local events celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of people seeking sanctuary. From school performances to public exhibitions — there’s something for everyone.

Training sessions
We offer free bespoke training sessions to our member organisations to help them learn more about the asylum system and identify ways to support people seeking sanctuary.
Past Projects:

The Writer’s Refuge
We were delighted to support this series of creative writing classes and retreats for people seeking sanctuary, organised by Northern Broadsides, Arvon North, St. Augustine’s Centre and Calderdale Libraries with local poet Clare Shaw.

Brave Boxes of Sanctuary
Our Brave Boxes are created for children and young people who are new to Calderdale or navigating the asylum system.

I am Skilful, I am Talented
This creative project celebrated the talent and potential of people seeking sanctuary in Calderdale. A group of local refugees co-produced a short film, learning professional photography and video skills while sharing their hopes, skills and contributions to our community.

Calderdale Welcomes You
With support from the National Lottery, we created a video series showcasing local members opening their doors to people seeking sanctuary. These stories highlight practical action, shared humanity, and what welcome really looks like across Calderdale.
