‘My name is not asylum seeker!’ is a pop-up exhibition hosted at Halifax Central Library opening 3rd May and lasting throughout Refugee Week until 13 June 2024.
The exhibition is about the everyday lives and experiences of people who have sought asylum in the UK and is based on collaborative research between university-based researchers, Prof Mette Louise Berg and Dr Eve Dickson (UCL), and people with lived experience. The research was conducted in collaboration with centre members from St Augustine’s Centre in Halifax and Doncaster Conversation Club, challenging narratives that dehumanize people seeking sanctuary and portray them as ‘illegals’ or a ‘burden.’
