Join us for a network event to share ideas and support for people seeking sanctuary in Calderdale.
About this event
We want to give you the opportunity to share your ideas for how we can make Calderdale an even more welcoming and safe valley – coming together as people seeking sanctuary, frontline workers, local organisations, businesses and individuals. We want to hear more about what work you’re already doing, what is working well, and what you think could improve.
This work is so important right now, as the Nationality and Borders Bill returns to the House of Commons this month. There is a ton of generosity in our community, but sometimes there are barriers to access that can be removed when we share resources and ideas.
Actions we could take together might include:
- Increasing access to volunteering opportunities for people claiming asylum that can support their CVs, finding paid employment once someone has refugee status, and for someone to feel valued in the community
- Free / reduced tickets to attend cultural events
- Coordinating transport to allow more people to take up offers of free or reduced cost activities in other areas of Calderdale
- Venues on offer for groups to meet at no charge
- Mentoring for people leading sanctuary seeking organisations
- Host an event for Valley of Sanctuary so that we can build upon and improve our membership
- Supporting mental health providers with culturally appropriate responses
- & so much more!
