Exploring SEND identification, support and inclusion for refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant children and families this Refugee Week 2026
As part of Refugee Week 2026, join us for an important conversation exploring the experiences of refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant families with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and how schools, services and communities can work together to improve support.
Children from refugee, asylum-seeking and migrant backgrounds can face unique barriers to having their needs recognised and met. Language acquisition can sometimes mask underlying needs, while trauma, interrupted education, cultural differences, unfamiliarity with UK systems and limited access to information can all make navigating the SEND system more challenging for families.
This seminar will bring together expert insight and lived experience for an important discussion, including a keynote speaker from Refugee Education UK, contributions from individuals with lived experience, and local professionals.
